COMPLETE DEBACLE

In mid-December 2023 I bought a toy kookaburra online as a Xmas gift for a friend overseas. The toy cost AUD17 and shipping to Europe cost a further $40+.
I instructed Australian Geographic to ship the toy directly to the EU to save the time and cost of double shipping. At no point during the online purchase process did Australian Geographic ask whether the purchase was a gift.
Unknown to me, Australian Geographic then marked on the customs form that this was not a gift but 'Other'. As a result, as the toy was coming directly from a company and was not a gift, EU Customs planned to levy 25 euros in duty. That amount of duty is clearly well more than the value of the toy. If I had agreed to pay, a $17 gift would have ended up costing me $100. I refused to pay the duty and the toy was shipped back to Australia, slowly.
All this because Australian Geographic never thought to ask their own customer whether the purchase was a gift. Clearly, Australian Geographic has not considered how it should effectively ship gifts overseas on behalf of customers without attracting duty.
More than two months later, after multiple bouts of correspondence with EU Customs and Australia Post, Australian Geographic have agreed to refund the $60 I paid. Of course now I have to monitor my account to make sure the refund actually happens.
What a fiasco. I'm embarrassed and hassled. My friend who never got the gift is disappointed and this really silly ordeal has dragged on for two months.
Australian Geographic needs to think through its processes. I'll never deal with them again. It's been a complete and utter debacle.

Kooka Kooka!!!!!

I'm 2 years old and discovered kookaburras at Christmas time. They are my new obsession!!! My stuffed toy has pride of place in my cubby house. I love it! From Hamish

Amazing Kookaburra

I got this cute kookaburra for a friend who is so into this chunky species, and she was so satisfied with the design and texture of it. When she squeezed the toy, the sound of the kookaburra made her laugh so loud! This kookaburra duet made my day!

Loved the look and size but the 'laughing ' sounds more like screeching tyres than a kookaburra (disappointed in the sound)
